AAOIFI’s 21st Shari’ah Conference Concludes in Bahrain

Welcome to AAOIFI’s 21st Shari’ah Conference, a distinguished gathering of experts and scholars shaping the future of Islamic finance through insightful discussions and groundbreaking ideas. This prestigious event, organized under the patronage of the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB), spanned two days from May 7th to 8th, 2022.

The conference was a global nexus of Islamic finance, attracting over 600 delegates from a minimum of 20 countries. It also adeptly adapted to the digital age by accommodating more than 800 virtual delegates, thereby expanding its reach beyond geographical boundaries.

Over 35 esteemed speakers from various fields lent their voices to six enlightening panel discussions, enriching the conference with their diverse perspectives. The opening ceremony, a highlight of the event, was graced by a roster of distinguished guests. These included the Chairman of AAOIFI Shari’ah Board, Sheikh Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani; H.E. Rasheed Mohamed Al Maraj, Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain; H.E. Saddek Omar Ali Elkaber, Governor of the Central Bank of Libya; H.E. Ali Ali Abdilahi Dahir, Governor of the Bank of Somaliland; and H.E. Mahmoud Mohamed Wafa, Chairman of the Libyan Capital Market Authority (LCMA).

The speakers, a mix of Shari’ah scholars from around the world, policymakers, and service providers from the global Islamic banking and finance industry, engaged in detailed discussions on a variety of pressing topics. This sharing of ideas and knowledge served to illuminate the current landscape of Islamic finance and chart the course for its future.

Partnerships that Strengthened AAOIFI’s 21st Shari’ah Conference

The conference enjoyed the robust support of several key partners. Major partners included the Saudi National Bank (SNB) from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Jumhouria Bank from Libya, and the Kuwait Finance House. The gold partners comprised Al Salam Bank, Al Baraka Banking Group, Bahrain Islamic Bank from Bahrain, and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) from the UAE. The silver partners were Eiger Trading Advisors and Jordan Islamic Bank. The Islamic University of Madinah, from Saudi Arabia, contributed as the academic partner.
